Please comment if you use this tutorial!
Before beginning this tutorial, you will need to download 2 different brushes–holes and cracks. You can download the brushes by going to this site: Photoshop Brushes. Download the “Holes” and “Various Cracks” brushes.
After you do that, we are ready to begin.
You can use any picture that you want for this tutorial. It works best if you do not use a picture of someone wearing glasses or someone that has an obstruction in front of the face. I am going to start with a picture of my friend Naomi.
1. Use the lasso tool to select half of the face. Do not make it straight. I try to make a bit jagged as I select my area. I but the feathering at 5 for this step.
2. Select the cracks brush. I like to use the first or second brushes in the series. You will need to resize the brush. It will vary by the picture that you use. For my picture, I set the brush pixels at 97. You will set the color to black, and begin using the crack brush on your selected area.
3. Next you can deselect the area that we had selected (select menu-deselect). And now we will work with the hole brushes. I love the 2nd brush in this series. Again, you will need to resize the brush depending on what picture you selected. I had to set my brush pixels at 81 for this. Ensure that the color is set to black, and apply the hole brush over one of the eyes.
4. Next we are going to work on the mouth. I like to give the mouth the appearance that it is has been sewn shut. To begin, you will need to go to basic brushes, and select a small, soft brush. For my picture, I am selecting a soft, round brush that is 3 pixels. You will begin by drawing small lines across the lips.
5. Next, you will draw a small line the length of the lips.
6. Select the burn tool. Adjust the pixel so that it is just slightly bigger than the end of your stitches. You will use the burn tool to create the look of bruising at the end of the stitches. You may have to go over it several times to achieve the effect that you want.
7. Select the smudge tool. You will run the smudge tool along the stitches to make them appear more realistic. The select the blur tool and do the same thing. Use the blur tool sparingly.
8. Now that we have finished with the mouth, we will select the sponge tool. This tool will desaturate the skin. You will apply this tool to all of the skin area.
9. You can finish the image by using the crack or hole brushes around the other area of the face. I also like to use the burn tool to darken the hair. You can also remove the background and add in a darker background if the background is light.
Here is my finished product:

pretty neat tut.
will try it out soon.
thanks much.
